What We DoAlthough we certainly do like to have a good time, we also like to give back to the community and contribute to charitable organizations. Our members have donated over $5000 to the ALS Society of Manitoba and other charitable groups over the last 10 years (Lou Gehrig was a Phi Delt!). We also volunteer to help at UMSU events, charity walks and other community service events. Chapter EventsIn addition to the community service and social events we participate in, there are also some Chapter events that happen weekly and yearly. Our weekly meetings are where the Chapter discusses the business of the week and whatever else is upcoming, and makes decisions on what events to host and how to organize them. Members are expected to hold a position in the Chapter, which would be anything from President to Recruitment Coordinator, Treasurer, Social Coordinator, Alumni Relations, Campus Relations and more. Each year we also hold two major events: our Formal Dinner and Dance, and our Founder's Day Dinner. The Formal is our chance to dress up and show off our sweet dance moves to the ladies. Founder's Day is an annual Brothers-only dinner held during the week of our Founder's birthday, where we get a chance to catch up with old friends, share stories (some of which never leave the room!) and celebrate another year of friendship. Social LifeAnother large part of the university experience is meeting people and making friends. We have "mixer" type social events with each of the Sororities every semester, so you will have a chance to meet the ladies of the Greek system and get to know them a little better. Many of our members have gone on to marry Sorority women, and then had their sons join the Fraternity as well! Plus, we have fundraising socials, go out for members' birthdays, and meet up for wings at Carlos and Murphys after meetings each week. SportsA few of our members also have a hockey team in the MTS Iceplex league (the Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tubemen), and we have a weekend out in Gimli every winter where we rent the local rink and have a chapter retreat. As well, we are planning on arranging for tickets to a Jets game for this coming season!! (GO JETS GO!) Another group of Alumni have a curling team which participates in the Brier every year, a few who are part of a Dragon Boat team, and some who go offroad biking in the summer on the weekends. Road TripsMembers organize road trips to concerts, hockey games (like the World Juniors in ND or Saskatoon), football games, (Labour Day Classics, Grey Cups, Vikings/Packers games), snowboarding, beaches, and lots of other awesome events. So Much More...We do lots more than just party! Our members organize study sessions and help each other to succeed in school. As an incentive for performing well academically, the Fraternity offers two scholarships, one for the whole Fraternity and another for only Canadian chapters, which we have had multiple members win! The Manitoba Chapter Advisory Board also offers a chapter-specific scholarship to our most outstanding member each year. |
