I joined Phi Delta Theta in 1998 and since then have met some of the best friends I've ever had. I even met my beautiful wife (who is an Alpha Gam) through a Fraternity/Sorority exchange!

ΦΔΘ Phi Delta Theta Fraternity

Who We Are

Phi Delta Theta is an international men's Fraternity, founded and headquartered at Miami University, in Oxford, Ohio. We were founded in 1848 by Robert Morrison and 5 other men who wanted to create an organization that represented their values and ideals.

"The Immortal Six"

These principles are described in The Bond, a document that was written and has remained unchanged since 1848. Although the contents of this document remain a secret to everyone but the Brothers of Phi Delta Theta, it can be summed up in what we refer to as "The Cardinal Principles":

Friendship, Sound Learning, and Moral Rectitude.

We believe that anyone who adheres to these principles will have a great chance of being a successful, well-liked and respected member of society, which are exactly the kind of people that Phi Delta Theta is interested in attracting.

ΦΔΘ at the University of Manitoba

Phi Delta Theta opened its Manitoba "Alpha" chapter at the University of Manitoba in 1930, along with a few other Greek letter organizations. We have since initiated 978 members into our chapter, which include judges, doctors, scientists, engineers and businessmen all around the world. See our Notable Members page for more about our distinguished Alumni.

Our chapter is currently a small one - we have three active members at the University of Manitoba, and two Phikeias who will be initiated during this semester. We are actively looking for recruits and if you're interested in learning more about ΦΔΘ, please see our Recruitment Centre for our event schedule and more information on membership.

Are there any requirements for being a member?

Our members come from all ethnic backgrounds, beliefs, faculties and programs, but we do require that members be enrolled in full-time undergraduate programs at the University of Manitoba. Unfortunately we are not chartered at the University of Winnipeg, so students there are not eligible for membership. Other than that, all we require is your commitment to complete the new member training program, which teaches you about the history of Phi Delta Theta and other Greek-Letter organizations, as well as about our own Chapter's history.

Are there any fees? Why should I have to pay to be a member?

We are required to submit a registration fee to our General Headquarters for each new member, which goes to pay for our yearly insurance premiums, fees for processing the registration, and a lifetime subscription to receive a copy of the Fraternity's newsletter, The Scroll. Each chapter then assesses dues to each active member on a yearly basis, to pay for the chapter's insurance, fees from GHQ, and other operating costs.

We will provide specific details about this year's dues after they have been approved by the Executive Committee in the first 2 weeks of September.
